Peran Peer Educator Dalam Menciptakan Lingkungan Sosial Bebas Stigma Pada Pengidap HIV
Abstract
Stigma sosial terhadap pengidap HIV masih menjadi hambatan utama dalam upaya pencegahan, pengobatan, dan peningkatan kualitas hidup kelompok berisiko. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi peran peer educator dalam menciptakan lingkungan sosial yang bebas stigma pada pengidap HIV di Kota Parepare. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif, melalui wawancara mendalam, diskusi kelompok terarah, dan observasi pada pendidik sebaya, pengidap HIV, kelompok berisiko, serta informan kunci. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidik sebaya berperan sebagai agen perubahan sosial melalui penciptaan ruang aman, komunikasi empatik berbasis pengalaman hidup, serta penguatan dukungan sosial dan solidaritas komunitas. Pendekatan ini terbukti mampu mengurangi stigma eksternal dan internal, meningkatkan penerimaan diri, serta mendorong keterlibatan pengidap HIV dalam layanan kesehatan. Namun, peer educator juga menghadapi tantangan berupa keterbatasan dukungan struktural dan beban emosional. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendidikan sebaya merupakan strategi promotif-preventif yang efektif dalam pengurangan stigma HIV dan perlu diperkuat melalui dukungan kebijakan serta kolaborasi lintas sektor
